The North Virginia Crazy Is Back On and Your Week 5 NFL Picks
Oh, man...crazy busy weekend which has allowed very little time for NFL research. I started Saturday south of the HOTPO headquarters in Occoquan, Virginia for a cross country meet, then headed east to Annapolis, Maryland for an old Army buddy's birthday and then finished the day in a black market, Irish pub, invite-only speak easy for Saturday night college football in the friendly confines of Fort Hunt, Virginia. Slam dunking black coffee and rubbing sleep out of my eyes, but we have to make this happen.
Occoquan: Virginia Cross Country Update
One of our HOTPO junior beat writers just knocked out a 5K in 15:52 yesterday. Myself, the senior editor and the rest of the HOTPO staff are very proud of him. His buddy, pictured with him, ran a 15:44!
Annapolis: Army Buddy Birthday Update
There are good dudes, there are really good dudes, and then there are super-legit, real f@cking good dudes ["dude" is gender non-specific is this use]. The HOTPO had the honor of an invite for the surprise birthday party for Randall Scott (Scotty) Maynard. We are grateful for our connection to the entire Maynard clan.
Fort Hunt: Irish Pub Finale Update
During this time of COVID, we have all, in someway, become more civic minded. We think: "How can I help my community, fellow man?" Some people do that by making an Irish Pub in their backyard so their friends can enjoy some stout dirty water with their college football. For those people, I am also grateful.
Because of all this action, I have given little thought to the NFL picks. But we're going to grip it and rip it! Let's do some picks.
Los Angeles Rams (-7.5) at the Washington Football Team: According to Kenneth Arthur of HogsHaven.com, they will be allowing fans at this game. Not sure why anyone would want to go. - RAMS
Arizona Cardinals (-7) at New York Jets: Arizona has not been playing well of late, but are a 7-point favorite on the road. Vegas does not think highly of the Jets and neither should you. - CARDINALS
Carolina Panthers at Atlanta Falcons (-2.5): Wow, Panthers are on a two-game winning streak. Jonathan DeLong of CatScratchReader.com says the Falcons have had "the Panthers number in recent seasons," so it is hard to go against what must be a hyper-desperate Falcons teams. -FALCONS
Cincinnati Bengals at Baltimore Ravens (-11.5): This is a huge time saver when it comes to research. - RAVENS
Jacksonville Jaguars at Houston Texans (-5.5): I have been telling you all that recently-fired Houston head coach Bill O'Brien was a vacuous numbskull (more often, I called him a "boob"). Texans will make gains due to his absence. - TEXANS
Las Vegas Raiders at Kansas City Chiefs (-11): I didn't predict the Chiefs to go to the Super Bowl this year, but certainly looks like they are. - CHIEFS
Philadelphia Eagles at Pittsburgh Steelers (-7): I am not totally impressed with Pittsburgh, but they keep winning and have had extra time to prep for this game. - STEELERS
Miami Dolphins at San Francisco 49ers (-8): Kevin Nogle of ThePhinsider.com highlights how good the San Francisco offense has been even while missing starting quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo. Jimmy G returns today. - 49ERS
Indianapolis Colts at Cleveland Browns (-1): Colts offense is misfiring. Browns offense is running everyone over. - BROWNS
New York Giants at Dallas Cowboys (-7.5): Cowboys defense is awful, but the Giants offense will make them look good. - COWBOYS
Minnesota Vikings at Seattle Seahawks (-6.5): Russell Wilson will probably get an MVP vote this year (or all of them). - SEAHAWKS
Los Angeles Chargers at New Orleans Saints (-8): Chargers QB Justin Herbert is on the rise and Saints QB Drew Brees is in decline. Still, an aging Brees is elite. - SAINTS
Enjoy the games.
