NFL Week 4 Picks & Another Municipal Course Masher Review
Week 2 was a bad week for favorites and predictions. Week 3 was even worse.
However, the HOTPO is still 27-22 and that lands within the range of the five experts at NFL.com. There are multiple great matchups this weekend with Vegas setting the lines for seven games at less than three points. That's a lot of close games to challenge your pick 'em expertise.
But we are all on the clock - let's zip through the lineup!
Week 4 Picks
New Orleans Saints at Atlanta Falcons (-2.5): Atlanta takes advantage of a shuffled New Orleans offensive line and avenges their embarrassing 48-17 loss to their rival that ended the 2023 season. – FALCONS
Cincinnati Bengals (-4.5) at Carolina Panthers: Cincinnati can’t buy a victory yet, but they can’t be bad enough to lose to Carolina. – BENGALS
Los Angeles Rams at Chicago Bears (-3): Sam Householder of the Windy City Gridiron Blog reports the Los Angeles defense has been pressuring quarterbacks consistently which is not good for Chicago’s struggling rookie QB Caleb Williams. – RAMS
Minnesota Vikings at Green Bay Packers (-2.5): Minnesota is beating good teams, their defense has given up the 2nd fewest points in the league and Green Bay QB Jordan Love is still questionable (but I would track his status and consider changing this pick if he is slated to play). – VIKINGS
Jacksonville Jaguars at Houston Texans (-6): Jacksonville QB Trevor Lawrence still has time to turn it around this year, but currently he looks like a bust (30th in Completion Percentage, 25th in YDS, 24th in TDs, 25th in QBR). – TEXANS
Pittsburgh Steelers (-1.5) at Indianapolis Colts: Speaking of looking like a bust, Indianapolis QB Anthony Richardson looked horrible last week (in a 21-16 win over the Bears), leads the league in interceptions, is completing less than half his passes and will face the #1 rated defense this week. – STEELERS
Denver Broncos at New York Jets (-7.5): The New York defense made life tough for New England quarterbacks last week and should do the same to Denver’s rookie QB Bo Nix. – JETS
Philadelphia Eagles (-1.5) at Tampa Bay Buccaneers: I am not real comfortable with this, but…Philadelphia will be missing its top three wide receivers this week (A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith and Britain Covery), as reported by Scott Reynolds of the Pewter Report, and that seems like a lot for QB Jalen Hurts and RB Saquon Barkely to overcome. – BUCCANEERS
Washington Commanders at Arizona Cardinals (-3.5): Washington rookie QB Jayden Daniels had an incredible performance in beating Cincinnati 38-33 last week, but that Washington defense is one of the worst in the league. – CARDINALS
New England Patriots at San Francisco 49ers (-10.5): Not betting against THAT line! – 49ERS
Cleveland Browns at Las Vegas Raiders (-2): Cleveland QB Deshaun Watson’s stats are very similar to Lawrence’s (wet fart) and Randy Chambers of the Pick Dawgz blog highlights the Browns have lost nine straight games played on the West Coast. – RAIDERS
Kansas City Chiefs (-7) at Los Angeles Chargers: Los Angeles QB Justin Herbert is questionable, FS Derwin James is suspended and those are only two of the potential 19 absences the Chargers are anticipating as of Thursday. – CHIEFS
Buffalo Bills at Baltimore Ravens (-2.5): Baltimore has to figure out why they are giving up so many fourth quarter points, but I think their desperation and home field advantage get them through this one. – RAVENS
Tennessee Titans at Miami Dolphins (-1): Tennessee has a pretty stingy defense and could possibly be playing against a third-string quarterback this weekend. – TITANS
Seattle Seahawks at Detroit Lions (-3.5): Seattle isn’t going to win them all and a prime-time road game is the perfect time for them to lose their first. – LIONS
Municipal Course Masher Review
I recently played 18-holes with a group at the Meadows Farms Golf Course in Locust Grove, Virginia. Meadows Farms contains 27-holes across three distinctly different sets of nine (Island Green Nine, Longest Hole Nine, Waterfall Nine) in a great country setting - you are definitely outside of the Beltway. The course is known for its Guiness Book of World Records "Longest Hole in the U.S." - a marathon 841-yard, par 6.
Being about an hour away from the D.C. Metropolitan Area, the crowds lighten and the fees decrease. Due to our dry summer, there were no true sand traps and hazards were few in general with the exception of the Island Green Nine. There were multiple holes in that nine, however, that were basically unplayable for me and I managed to lose five balls over 18 on this very forgiving course.
Our group conducted post-golf activities at the 1781 Brewery which is a little more than six miles from the golf course. They had the full range of tasty brews that you would expect from a top-notch brewery, plus easy access from I-95, plenty of parking and clean porta-potties. It was an excellent place to rehash a round of golf.
Cheers to Meadows Farms and 1781 Brewery. I hope to spend time at both again soon.
