Scooter's on a Roll
I assume you all know by now that Cincinnati Reds utility player Scooter Gennett went 5-for-5 with 4 home runs and 10 RBIs against the St. Louis Cardinals last night in Great American Ballpark. No Red has ever hit 4 home runs in a game before.
Gennett joined a list of 17 MLB players that have hit four dingers in a game. That list includes Lou Gehrig, Willie Mays and Gil Hodges (Hodges is a native Hoosier, by the way). We know this will never happen again, in fact, it wouldn't be surprising if Gennett never hits two home runs in a game. Sell high in your fantasy league immediately if you have Gennett.
What is really important from the Reds second straight victory over the hated club from St. Louis is they got good starting pitching from Tim Adelman. The Reds have three of their preseason projected starters on the injured list and only two of the six pitchers with the most starts this year have an ERA under 5.00, which is not good. Cincinnati is better than expected and could go on a little run if their starters can get their collective act together.
I bet my long-time buddy Nick is happy with Scooter Gennett today.
There is a lot to do in Cleveland this week beyond watching this NBA finals flop to the finish. If you are actually in Cleveland, you can see Robert Cray and Hi Rhythm at the Kent Stage tonight. Cray is seriously underrated and might be worth an early punt on the finals. If you are staying through the weekend, I might suggest Beastie Boys tribute band Rhymin' N' Stealin' at the House of Blues on Friday and the Tater Tots and Beer Festival at Voinovich Bicentennial Park on Saturday.
My top pick for D.C. folks this weekend is The Record Company at the 930 Club on Saturday.
Game 5 of the NHL Finals will be played tomorrow night and that series is tied at 2-2. It is about time to tune in to that competition. I will have more on the NHL finals in my next post on Saturday, prior to Game 6, scheduled for Sunday.
Way to go, Scooter. Go Reds!
